Young Mont-Carmel lawn cutter wins national award for entrepreneurial spirit
OTTAWA, Ont. — Young professional lawn cutter Nico Durant of Mont-Carmel received an award for his entrepreneurial spirit at the RDÉE Canada’s 2022 Lauriers de la PME awards gala on Sept. 28 in Ottawa.
Durant was recognized for the Judges’ Mention – Out-of-Category Award for his entrepreneurial potential from the 2022 Lauriers de la PME national entrepreneurial awards competition.
Durant has been in business since the age of 10. In spring 2019, he established Durant’s Grass Cutting, which propelled his mission to offer exceptional lawn mowing and property maintenance services.

At the start of spring, Nico invests as many hours as possible in his business.
He mows lawns, figures out work schedules, prepares estimates and contracts, takes care of accounting and billing and more.
He continues to nurture his entrepreneurial spirit by consulting with his mentors.
“If I continue to follow their advice, there’s really no telling how far I could go,” said Durant.

RDÉE PEI president Christian Lacroix said the organization has been watching Durant work hard to develop his entrepreneurial skills for several years.
“We first saw him work for three summers in our Young Millionaires program with his stilt-and toy-manufacturing company, LaFun,” said Lacroix.
“Then we saw him develop Durant Metals, through which he made outdoor stoves by welding car wheels together. And then, we saw him establish his lawn mowing service, Durant’s Grass Cutting, and grow his business from a handful of clients in 2019 to more than 50 residential and commercial clients the past two summers.”
Lacroix noted that the organization presented Durant with the Young Millionaire Award in 2015.
Last spring, the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI also awarded him its 2022 Young Enterprising Person of the Year Award.
